A Reminder Of Co-Existence
In creating the East Meets West collection, Jane has used materials and techniques that intentionally integrate the Eastern and Western notions of geography, politics and aesthetics within each piece. When designing this collection, Jane recognised the inextricable connection and attraction of the East towards the Western style, and vice versa.
Each piece in this collection features Australian stones and opals. These are combined with white and white-gold, Australian South Sea Pearls, plentiful black and silver Tahitian pearls and white Chinese jade, individually certified sculptured Burmese green jadeite and jade, cut in China to Chinese designs. The contrasting tones and textures alongside the miniature carved artworks in jade are the distinct hallmarks of this collection and testament to the artistry of its creator. The stones and pearls are linked together in a seemingly organic fashion on gold wire with graduating large and small stones.
This is a collection for the woman yearning for the rich contact of a variety of cultures. She understands the richness produced when cultures come together. She understands how to make an entrance in the full security that no-one else will be wearing the same item.
As these pieces combine a variety of textures they look phenomenal on ‘tonal dressing’ (one tone or variations of tones of once colour) that is currently coming into vogue (British Vogue, Jan. 2017, pp. 63-64). These necklaces can be dressed ‘up’ or ‘down’ and look to their best advantage on block colours.
